Can't reach the server
It may be waking up after sitting idle. Nothing you have saved is lost.
If the server answers on its own, this page will load by itself.
Legal notice
Terms & Conditions
The agreement between you and Personal Manager, in language meant to be read.
The short version
- The app is free. There is no subscription, no trial and nothing to cancel.
- Your records are yours. Using the app grants no rights over them to anyone.
- Keep your password safe, and keep your vault passphrase and recovery code safer still — losing both is the one thing that cannot be undone.
- Take your own backups. This is a free app maintained by one person, not a service with an uptime guarantee.
- It comes with no warranty, and it is not financial advice.
The clauses below are what actually governs. Where the summary and a clause differ, the clause wins.
1. Who you are agreeing with
Personal Manager is written and maintained by Divyaprakash, one person, with no company behind it and no investor waiting on a return. In these terms, “the app” means the software — the website, the Android and Windows apps, and the server that backs them. “You” means the person using it.
The app can also be run by someone else on their own server, because it is built to be. If you are using a copy somebody else installed, these terms still describe the software you are running, but the person operating that server is the one holding your data and the one to ask about it. These terms cannot bind them on your behalf.
2. Your account
You need an email address and a password. Registration is open and self-service; nobody has to approve you, and no card is asked for at any point.
- Give a real email address. It is how a forgotten password is reset and how your vault recovery code reaches you, so an address you cannot open is an account you can be locked out of.
- Your password is yours to protect. Only a one-way hash of it is ever stored, which is what keeps it unreadable to everyone — and also means nobody can look it up for you.
- An account is for one person. You are responsible for what happens under yours.
- Say so if you think someone else has got in, and change your password. The address is on the Contact Us page.
3. Your vault passphrase and recovery code
The vault is sealed with a passphrase of its own, separate from your password and never sent anywhere. When you set it up, the app issues a one-time recovery code and emails it to you. Those two secrets are the only things that open the vault.
Neither is stored in a form anyone can read back. If you lose both the passphrase and the recovery code, your vault entries cannot be recovered — not by support, not by Divyaprakash, not by anyone with the database in front of them. That is the design working as intended rather than a gap in it, and it is the reason the vault can be trusted with anything in the first place. Keep the recovery code somewhere other than the app.
4. What you may do with the app
Use it, for as long as you like, for your own affairs or your household's. Keep as many records as you want; nothing here is metered and no feature is held back behind an upgrade.
The app's own source and design remain Divyaprakash's — using the app does not transfer any of that to you. What you may and may not do with the code itself is set out on the Copyright & Licences page.
5. What you may not do
Short, because the list of things a personal finance app can be abused for is short.
- Do not try to reach another person's records, or test whether you can.
- Do not attack, overload or probe the server, or attempt to work around its limits.
- Do not use the app to store or move anything unlawful, or for anything illegal.
- Do not resell the app or run it as a paid service while presenting it as your own.
- Do not strip out the copyright notices or the attribution the open-source licences require.
An account used for any of the above can be suspended. On a shared server that is the only protection every other account has.
6. Your records stay yours
Everything you put in — transactions, accounts, notes, diary entries, tasks and vault items — belongs to you. No ownership passes to Divyaprakash by your using the app. Your records are stored and processed for one purpose only: showing them back to you and doing the sums you asked for.
Nothing is sold, shared or mined for advertising. There is no analytics or telemetry in either app, so no third party is even told that you opened it. The Privacy Policy sets out what is held and why.
You can take it all out whenever you like — Excel, CSV or PDF from Import & Export, or a full encrypted archive from Backups. There is no lock-in, and leaving does not cost you your records.
7. Availability, changes and endings
- It may be unavailable. This is a free app maintained in evenings and weekends. There is no uptime guarantee, no support rota and no promise that the server is reachable at any particular moment. On Android the app keeps working from its own copy of your data and syncs when it can.
- It will change. Features may be added, altered or withdrawn. Nothing on the About page is a roadmap, and nothing here is a commitment that a given feature will still exist next year.
- Take your own backups. Mentioned twice on purpose. An encrypted archive in your own keeping is the only copy that survives a server going away, and the app will make you one on demand or on a schedule.
- You can stop at any time. Export what you want first; you do not need anyone's permission and there is nothing to cancel.
- Deleting your account is not yet self-service. Stated plainly rather than implied: the app currently has no button that erases an account and everything in it. Until it does, ask at Contact Us and it will be done by hand.
8. What it costs
Nothing, and nothing later either. If a way to tip the author is configured on the copy you are using, it is a tip jar and not a toll gate: nothing in the app behaves differently whether you use it or not, and any payment is voluntary and non-refundable because it buys nothing.
9. No warranty, and the limits of liability
The app is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent the law allows, Divyaprakash is not liable for any loss of data, profit or opportunity, or any indirect or consequential loss, arising from your use of the app.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. The Disclaimer explains what this means in practice, and in particular why the app's figures are not financial advice.
10. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the app changes. The date they took effect is at the top of this page, and continuing to use the app after a change means the new version applies. No change will ever be made that claims a right over your records.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, where the app is maintained, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you use a copy running on someone else's server, the law that applies between you and whoever operates it is a matter between you and them.
12. Getting in touch
Questions about these terms, or anything else, go to Prakash3300@gmail.com. There is more about what to include, and what to expect, on the Contact Us page.
